We are always proud of our team’s compassion, especially when they invest their time and resources in a good cause. Sara C. is the latest team member to take a hands-on approach to philanthropy. She’ll be part of a “mini mission” this month, helping provide dental care to disadvantaged communities in Haiti.
“When I heard about the Haiti trip, I was really excited to get involved and do something positive,” Sara says. “I love to travel. This mission is a great opportunity to experience the world, and at the same time, give something back to it.”
Sara’s trip takes place at a fitting time of year, Nov. 21-25, right during Thanksgiving. In the U.S., and perhaps especially in the Boston area, we are fortunate to have the best health care available. Haiti isn’t so lucky. The island nation suffers from extreme poverty and a shortage of trained dental professionals, especially outside of the capital city. As a Registered Dental Hygienist, Sara will be providing care to underserved Haitians in rural areas.
In addition to hands-on care, dental professionals like Sara work to raise public awareness about oral health. Periodontal disease and tooth decay are preventable, yet they can contribute to a variety of illnesses that affect the whole body.
The five-day mission is coordinated by International Medical Relief, a registered 501(c)(3) medical organization with NGO status.
