A Wheel Inspiration: Dr. Strock Completes PMC Ride

Congrats to Dr. Heather Strock for biking nearly 200 miles for a wonderful cause! As many of our patients know, Dr. S participated this year in the Pan-Mass Challenge. This event, often called the PMC, is an intense cycling fundraiser.

The first day’s ride is 110 miles. The riders are understandably tired going into the second 13958298_10207397538596651_8399953410240363075_oday. Despite this, Dr. Strock says the second day was easier because it was “only” 82 miles!

The cyclists were on the road at dawn, battling aches and pains as well as the physical and mental challenge of riding an incredibly long distance.

Dr. Strock and her husband, Michael Strock, had a special inspiration to keep them going. They rode in honor of Mike’s late father, Rick Strock. He was a remarkable man, and his heroic battle with cancer motivated the couple to raise funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Mike even rode with a photo of his dad taped to his bike! He and Dr. Strock were able to stay together for most of the ride, which is no easy feat since there are thousands of participants.

The couple was part of the Boston Bruins Foundation team. They raised $27,000 for life-saving cancer research and treatment.

This was their first year riding in the PMC. Dr. Strock says she’s planning to ride again next year!
