Is Malocclusion Causing Your Headache?

By Clear braces, Cosmetic dentistry

Wakefield Headache Relief

Do you suffer from severe headaches? Have you tried meds, diet adjustments, and chiropractic treatment, to no avail? Future of Dentistry at Willows – North Andover might have the answer. Perhaps the cause is not stress-induced tension, food allergies, spine alignment, or eyestrain. Maybe the culprit is right under your nose!

Bite misalignment – or malocclusion – is a fairly common abnormality. However, it ordinarily goes undetected. Nature intended the front teeth to fit slightly forward from the lower teeth. With a perfect bite, the molars fit together like precision gears.

However, when there is bite misalignment, the upper arch may close too far back or the lower teeth may close off-center horizontally. This can cause headaches, loosening of the teeth, tooth fracture, and – in acute cases –  difficulty chewing, speaking, or breathing.

Invisalign® clear braces are a perfect solution for this bite dilemma. They shift your teeth comfortably and without the need for invasive metal in your mouth. They can also correct the position and function of the joints, muscles, and bones in the jaw. In very rare cases of acute malocclusion, jaw surgery may be required.

If you haven’t been able to identify the cause of your headaches, visit us at Future of Dentistry at Willows – North Andover. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley come to us for this and other cosmetic dentistry options. Contact us today!

  1. Remember that your team is trained to provide the best care and comfort possible. Our dental assistants, hygienists, and receptionists will welcome you warmly and provide anything you need to stay comfortable.
  2. Take some time to relax and pinpoint what you are uneasy about. Take deep breaths and slowly let them out, as you weigh the reasons for and against taking these steps to a better you. Remember that many patients have been in your shoes, and everything has worked out fine.
  3. Know your medical history. You may be asked to fill out a medical history and medications form, so be sure you know what medications and supplements you are currently taking and review past hospitalizations and illnesses.
  4. Have a dental plan. Come in for a thorough consultation. If we know the work you want and the results you want to achieve, then we’ll know if combining any of it can save you time and money. We offer porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, and dental implants, to name just a few cosmetic and restorative dentistry services.
  5. Trust the process. We’ve been doing this since 1996, and we take every step to ensure comfort, peace of mind, and fantastic results! We can guarantee you will be glad you visited us.
  6. Ask questions! If you have a few issues in mind, write them down before you arrive. Make sure to be open and honest about what you want answered, and your dental concerns moving forward.

At Future of Dentistry, we want all our patients to maintain their dental health; and the best way to do this is regular check-ups with our dental team. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley come to us for general dentistry. Contact us today!

It Doesn’t Take Long To Beautify Your Smile

By Cosmetic dentistry, Dental health

Cosmetic Dentistry: Gum Contouring In Wakefield

At Future of Dentistry, we can improve your smile with cosmetic dentistry. Possibilities include restoring cracked or discolored teeth, straightening them, or even replacing those that are missing.

We all want to have the best possible smiles, but cosmetic dentistry is more than just appearance. Straight teeth are easier to care for, and make for a healthier smile. That may explain why clear braces are so popular. They can straighten your teeth, and are almost undetectable as you wear them.

Also in demand are porcelain veneers. They can transform your appearance and are minimally invasive. A thin layer of tooth enamel is removed before veneers are permanently attached to your teeth. After that, you’ve got a mega-watt smile.

Dental implants are, in many ways, one of the most significant advances in the history of dentistry. Titanium posts inserted in the jaw can support one or more replacement teeth that look and function like the real thing.

At Future of Dentistry, cosmetic dentistry can restore your smile. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley also come to us for complete general dentistry. Contact us today!

The Ultimate Anti-Aging Treatment

By Cosmetic dentistry, Dental health, Teeth whitening

Wakefield Pediatric Dentistry

If your teeth have grown yellow and dull over the years, professional teeth whitening from Future of Dentistry can restore the natural beauty of your smile, and take years off your appearance.

Toothpaste Can’t Erase All Stains

Tooth enamel, while one of the toughest substances in the body, is porous. Over time, the food and drinks that come in contact with our teeth bring about staining and discoloration.

There are plenty of toothpastes on the market that claim to whiten teeth, but their effectiveness has its limitations. You have probably noticed this already.

Powerful Peroxide

Professional-grade teeth whitening uses powerful peroxide that can whiten teeth up to ten shades. It is the safest, most convenient way to achieve a fabulous white smile.

Having your teeth whitened professionally can be a huge boost for your self-confidence. You’ll look younger, and find it easier to make a positive impression on other people.

To schedule a teeth whitening appointment, please call us at Future of Dentistry. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley also come to us for this and other cosmetic dentistry options. Contact us today!

When Something’s Gotta Give, Don’t Let It Be Your Dental Health

By Dental health, General dentistry

Life gets busy for all of us, and at times, there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Maybe you’ve been putting off fixing a leaky faucet for as long as you can remember. Lots of things get put on the back burner, but at Future of Dentistry, we urge you not to let your dental care be on of them!

Here are some common dental care shortcuts. Do any of them sound familiar?

  • Rushing Through Brushing: Your teeth deserve at least two minutes of brushing. Slow and methodical beats quick and dirty. Use a process to make sure you get every tooth. Playing one of your favorite two- or three-minute songs may help you go the distance.
  • Only Seeing The Dentist When You Have a Toothache: We hope none of our patients put off evaluations and cleanings. When you feel tooth pain, it may already be a cavity.
  • Neglecting Professional Cleanings: When softer plaque turns to tartar, you can’t clean it away with a toothbrush. Six-month cleanings help get rid of it before it can impair your enamel or irritate your gums.
  • Using Floss Picks Instead of Dental Floss: While it’s better to use a floss pick than to not floss at all, it’s important to know that they can only clean a part of the tooth’s surface. Ordinary string floss is by far the most effective way to floss your teeth.

At Future of Dentistry, we want all our patients to have good dental health. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley come to our office for general and restorative dentistry. Contact us today!

What’s Your Dental Plan?

By Dental health, General dentistry

To have the best dental health, it helps if you develop a plan: a plan you stick to no matter what. Part of it should be regular checkups at Future of Dentistry, but there’s more to it than that.

Here are some things you can consider for your dental plan.

  • Brush Your Teeth: That’s an easy one! Brush your teeth at least once every day. Twice is better. Take at least two minutes, and be sure you do a thorough job. That means brushing the chewing surfaces and sides, and making sure you get along the gum-line. Remember to brush your tongue. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and replace it every few months. Be sure you floss, too. Pro tip: brush before going to bed!
  • Experiment With Floss: There are lots of different types of dental floss. Find the one you like best! You’ll be more likely to use it every day. String floss is superior to floss picks because it gets more of the tooth. It comes in different widths, waxed and unwaxed, and various flavors.
  • Use Fluoride Toothpaste: Check the label of your toothpaste to make sure it contains fluoride. The flavor is up to you, but fluoride is an important ingredient and not all brands have it. Fluoride fights the germs that lead to tooth decay.
  • Consider Mouthwash: Using a mouthwash is not essential, but it can be an excellent supplement to your daily regimen. It can cleanse hard-to-reach areas and re-mineralize the teeth. We can recommend a good one for you.
  • Limit Sugary Foods: Sugar is what converts into cavity-causing acids in your mouth. Candy and other sweets are the obvious culprits, but even fruit can contribute. You don’t need to avoid all sugary stuff, but limit your intake and brush later.

So, what’s your plan? Future of Dentistry can help you design one that fits your needs and schedule. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley come to our practice for general and restorative dentistry. Contact us today!

Breathtaking Smiles With Professional Tooth Whitening

By Cosmetic dentistry, Dental health, Teeth whitening

Tooth Whitening Dentistry In Wakefield

Imagine walking into our office at Future of Dentistry for a scheduled appointment, and leaving an hour later with a smile that has been transformed from dull and lackluster to gleaming and bright! With our Opalescence® teeth whitening services it is possible.

Just about everyone would like to have a brighter smile, and teeth whitening has become one of the most in-demand procedures we offer. We use a special light-activated system that greatly accelerates the process.

More to the point: it is extremely effective. It’s totally understandable why anyone would try one of the over-the-counter whitening products available in any grocery store. The truth of the matter is that not one of them delivers the results of professional teeth whitening.

We have an option for the do-it-yourselfers, too: professional-grade at-home teeth whitening. It’s not as fast as in-office whitening, but the results are just as breathtaking. We’ll set you up with an at-home whitening kit that uses whitening gels you can only get from a licensed dentist.

Teeth whitening from Future of Dentistry will give you a dazzling new smile, and it’s just one of our cosmetic dentistry services! Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley also come to us for restorative and general dentistry. Contact us today!

The Future of Dentistry Guide To Wisdom Teeth

By Dental health, Restorative dentistry

Wisdom Teeth And Your Wakefield Dentist

Wisdom teeth are usually the very last teeth to grow into the jaw. They’re located way in the back, which can present problems for some people. We handle a lot of wisdom teeth cases at Future of Dentistry.

Also known as the third molars, wisdom teeth usually come in between the late teens and early twenties. Sometimes they grow in straight and healthy, but unfortunately that is in a small percentage of people. Most have them extracted because they can be troublesome. The younger you are when you have them pulled, the better.

Problems

There are several common issues with wisdom teeth.

  • Angling: Wisdom teeth often grow in at an angle, so that they lean too far inward or outward.
  • Positioning: They can grow in horizontally in the tooth socket, instead of vertically.
  • Impacted: Sometimes wisdom teeth grow into the gums or the jawbone. This is known as an impacted tooth. They can become infected and be extremely painful.

We can X-ray the jaws of our younger patients to see how their wisdom teeth are coming along. When we see they are going to be a problem, we usually recommend extracting them.

When wisdom teeth are extracted at a young age, the recovery time is faster and the procedure itself is usually much easier. Wisdom teeth extraction is common at Future of Dentistry, and we have helped patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley. People also come to see us for other restorative dentistry options. Contact us today!

Why You Shouldn’t Dread Going To The Dentist

By Dental health, General dentistry

Dracut gentle dentist

Countless people see their stress levels rise as they anticipate an upcoming dental appointment. It’s so common there’s a term for it: dental anxiety. But a calm and comfortable atmosphere, as well as a focus on patient communication, can often be the best answer to this sort of stress. This is what we offer at Future of Dentistry can help even severe cases get the dental care they deserve.

Some people get so concerned at the thought of a dental checkup that they’ll put it off for months, even years. In severe cases, they’ll avoid the dentist completely, and trust to daily flossing and brushing to keep their teeth and gums in good shape. We’ll never discourage regular flossing and brushing, but skipping the dentist is never a good idea.

No matter how good a job you do with dental hygiene, even if it’s brushing after every meal and right before bed, it is no substitute for a dental checkup. But we understand how difficult it is, for whatever reason, for some people to get themselves to our office. Our unique, patient-centered approach has helped hundreds of people get through their appointments.

We pride ourselves in three calming, anxiety-reducing factors:

  • Patient Communication: Most fear stems from ignorance. With our direct approach, you’ll have all the information about your procedure communicated to you in simple terms. This way, you can choose which treatments you are comfortable.
  • Topical Anesthesia: Over the last few decades, local anesthetics have become incredibly effective at numbing pain. This, combined with a dental team that is ready to coach you through your treatment, means you are in safe, pain-free hands.
  • Patient Amenities: Whether you need a glass of water, a re-explanation of a procedure, or even calming music, we are at your service. We will strive to make this appointment as close to a spa experience as possible!

Never take the chance of compromising your dental health by skipping the dentist. Future of Dentistry can help you overcome your dental phobia. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley rely on us for general and restorative dentistry. Contact us today!

5 Reasons To Schedule A Cleaning Today

By Dental health, General dentistry

top dentist Boston

Are you one of those people who dreads having your teeth cleaned? At Future of Dentistry, we get it: no one really likes having their teeth and gums poked, prodded, and scraped. But for most people it’s simple and painless, and in the long run it is well worth it!

Here are five really good reasons to schedule your next cleaning:

1. Protect Your Gums

It’s not only cavities that can damage a tooth until it is beyond saving. Gum disease that leads to bone loss is just as bad. Gum disease is caused by a buildup of plaque that creates pockets of infection between the gums and tooth roots. In serious cases it can lead to tooth loss.

2. Prevent Cavities

Even if you brush and floss morning and night, plaque can collect in those hard-to-reach places. Only a professional cleaning can get it all.

3. Check for Oral Cancer

The Oral Cancer Foundation relates this sobering news: oral cancer claims one life approximately every hour – that’s 48,250 deaths a year.

4. Oral Health and Overall Health Go Hand in Hand

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, your mouth is a window to your overall health. The link between good dental health and good general health is by now well-established.

5. It Feels Great!

There’s nothing quite like that clean fresh feeling you get after a dental cleaning!

At Future of Dentistry, we offer general and restorative dentistry. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley trust us with their dental health, and also come to us for dental implants. Contact us today!
