Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants: A Checklist for Success

By Dental implants, Restorative dentistry

older woman sitting on a couch smiling, new dental implantsMissing teeth can affect your confidence, your bite, and your overall oral health. If you are looking for a permanent and effective way to restore your smile, you may be considering dental implants. At Future of Dentistry, our premium and high-quality dental implants offer an innovative solution that allows patients to reconstruct and replace missing teeth with outstanding results. But how do you know if you are the right fit for this procedure?

For over 30 years, our founder, Dr. Gerry Casazza, has been dedicated to bringing exceptional dentistry to patients throughout New England. We’ve created this simple checklist to help you determine if you are a prime candidate for dental implants.

Your Dental Implant Candidacy Checklist

Dental implants are designed to function just like natural teeth, providing a strong and stable foundation for a replacement tooth or crown. Consider these factors to see if they might be the right choice for you.

  • Good General Health: Successful implant surgery depends on your body’s ability to heal. Patients with controlled chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease can still be excellent candidates. It’s crucial to discuss your full medical history with your dentist to ensure the procedure is safe for you.
  • Sufficient Jawbone Density: Implants need a solid foundation. A dental implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone. Over time, the bone fuses with the post in a process called osseointegration. If you have experienced bone loss, you may still be a candidate, but a bone grafting procedure might be necessary first to build up the area.
  • Healthy Gums: Your gums play a vital role in supporting your teeth and your implants. Candidates should be free from periodontal (gum) disease. If you have active gum disease, we will need to treat it successfully before proceeding with implant surgery.
  • Commitment to Oral Hygiene: Just like natural teeth, implants require diligent care. A commitment to regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups is essential for the long-term success of your dental implants.
  • Non-Smoker: While not an absolute disqualifier, smoking can significantly hinder the healing process and increase the risk of implant failure. Patients who do not smoke generally experience better outcomes.

Understanding the Dental Implant Process

The journey to a renewed smile with dental implants involves several key steps. It starts with a comprehensive consultation, including x-rays and 3D imaging, to create a personalized treatment plan.

Next is the implant placement, where the titanium post is surgically positioned in your jawbone. This is followed by a healing period of a few months, allowing for osseointegration to occur. Once your jaw has fully healed and fused with the implant, a custom-made crown is attached to the post. This crown is meticulously crafted to match the color and shape of your surrounding teeth, resulting in a seamless, natural-looking smile.

Saying Goodbye to Gaps in Your Smile: The Strength of Dental Implants

By Dental health, Dental implants, Restorative dentistry

older man smiling in a mirror, happy with new dental implantA gap in your smile can do more than just affect your appearance; it can change how you eat, speak, and feel. You don’t have to live with the discomfort or self-consciousness that comes with missing teeth. At Future of Dentistry, we offer a permanent, natural-looking solution: dental implants. This advanced treatment doesn’t just fill a space—it restores your smile’s full function and beauty.

Founded by the award-winning Dr. Gerry Casazza, Future of Dentistry is committed to providing exceptional dental care to our communities. We believe everyone deserves a smile they can be proud of.

What Exactly Are Dental Implants?

Think of a dental implant as a replacement tooth root. It’s a small, titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone where a tooth is missing. This post fuses with the bone over time, creating a strong and stable foundation. Once the implant is secure, we attach a custom-made crown that is carefully crafted to match the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth. The end result is a tooth that looks, feels, and functions just like the real thing.

More Than Just a Pretty Smile: The Functional Benefits

The true power of dental implants lies in how they improve your oral health. When you lose a tooth, the surrounding teeth can begin to shift, and the underlying jawbone can start to deteriorate. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that stimulates and preserves bone structure, preventing that loss and keeping your facial contours intact.

This stability means you can eat your favorite foods without worry. Unlike dentures that can slip, implants are anchored firmly in place. You can bite into an apple or enjoy a steak with confidence. Your speech can also improve, as gaps or loose-fitting appliances can sometimes cause slurring or mumbling.

A Solution for One Tooth or Many

Dental implants are incredibly versatile. Whether you are missing a single tooth from an injury or need to replace several teeth due to decay or disease, an implant-based solution can be tailored for you.

  • Single Tooth Replacement: A single implant and crown can flawlessly fill the gap left by one missing tooth without impacting the adjacent healthy teeth.
  • Multiple Teeth Replacement: If you have several teeth missing in a row, an implant-supported bridge can restore them. This uses two or more implants to support a series of connected crowns, creating a strong and seamless restoration.

Your Smile is Our Priority

At Future of Dentistry, our expert team is dedicated to restoring your smile and your confidence. We proudly serve patients throughout Greater Boston and the Merrimack Valley, with convenient locations in Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, North Andover, and Wakefield, MA.

Don’t let gaps in your smile hold you back any longer. Contact Future of Dentistry today to schedule a consultation and discover if dental implants are the right solution for you.

Why Dental Implants Are the Gold Standard for Tooth Replacement

By Dental implants, Restorative dentistry

doctor holding up a dental implant model, showing where the implant is screwed into jaw boneLosing a tooth can feel challenging, both emotionally and physically. From altering your smile to causing difficulty in eating or speech, tooth loss can impact your life in more ways than you might imagine. Fortunately, modern dentistry offers an ideal solution for tooth replacement—dental implants. For patients across Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley, dental implants are widely regarded as the gold standard. Wondering why? Let’s explore.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into your jawbone, serving as an artificial tooth root. Once the implant fuses with the bone (through a process called osseointegration), it provides a sturdy foundation for a crown, bridge, or even a full set of dentures. This seamless integration makes dental implants an excellent, long-lasting replacement for missing teeth.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Dental implants stand out for their range of benefits—covering aesthetics, functionality, and overall health. Here’s why they’re considered the ultimate solution:

1. Aesthetics and Confidence

Dental implants are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth. With custom-made crowns that match the shape, size, and color of your existing teeth, they restore your smile beautifully. This can significantly boost your confidence and make you feel more comfortable in social settings.

2. Oral Health Benefits

Unlike other options, such as bridges, dental implants don’t require the alteration of adjacent teeth. This means your healthy teeth remain intact. More importantly, because implants mimic natural tooth roots, they stimulate the jawbone, preventing bone loss (a common issue with tooth loss) and maintaining the structure of your face.

3. Durability and Longevity

Dental implants are built to last. With proper care and regular dental checkups, they can last for decades—far outlasting alternatives like dentures or traditional bridges. This makes them a cost-effective and hassle-free investment in your oral health.

4. Enhanced Functionality

One of the standout features of dental implants is their functionality. Unlike removable dentures that might slip or cause discomfort while eating or speaking, implants provide a secure and stable solution. You can chew, talk, and smile without worrying about your tooth replacement.

5. Low Maintenance

Dental implants don’t require any special care. Simply maintain good oral hygiene—brush, floss, and visit your dentist regularly—and your implants will remain in great condition. They become as much a part of your routine as your natural teeth.

The Future of Dentistry in Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley

Dental implants represent the future of dentistry, offering not only a practical solution to tooth loss but also elevating patients’ oral health in meaningful ways. At dental practices across Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley, more patients are choosing implants because of their unmatched benefits. Whether you’ve lost a single tooth or require a complete restoration, dental implants provide a tailored solution to suit your needs.

Take the Next Step Toward a Healthier Smile

Investing in dental implants is not just about aesthetics; it’s about enhancing your quality of life. If you’re considering a tooth replacement, consult with your dentist to see if implants are the right option for you. With their natural appearance, durability, and ability to safeguard your oral health, they’re undoubtedly the gold standard for restoring smiles. Life with dental implants is not just a possibility—it’s a step toward a more confident and healthier you!

Gap-Tooth Smiles Aren’t Quite As Adorable Anymore

By Cosmetic dentistry, Dental implants, General dentistry

dental implant cost Dracut

Have you lost teeth? It’s a lot different than when you lost your baby teeth way back in the day. Unfortunately, these don’t grow back. (And a gap-toothed smile doesn’t look as adorable as it did when you were in elementary school.)

If you have had teeth extracted or if your teeth are compromised by staining, decay, chipping, or brittle aging, then it’s time to visit Doctor Gerry Casazza at Future of Dentistry.

Since 1991, doctor Casazza has built a practice teeming with experience, filled with kindness, flowing with a gentle touch, and carrying all the wisdom of expert professionals.

When it comes to the prospect of losing your adult teeth, the preference is always to save your natural teeth. If this is not feasible, we offer several ways to maintain your ability to eat, drink, speak, laugh, and smile in selfies.

Dental Veneers

If you still have your teeth but are not satisfied with them, these might be your answer. Stunning porcelain veneers offer a competitively-priced approach to cosmetic adjustments—uneven color, size, or shape. These are very thin shells bonded to the front of the teeth. They enhance unsightly, but structurally sound teeth.

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is used where a tooth is missing. It “bridges” a gap between teeth. It is a restoration with a false tooth (or teeth) attached to the surrounding teeth. Dental bridges have been used with success for generations of people who have lost teeth.

Dental Implant

A dental implant is a more extensive replacement for a missing tooth. An implant consists of an artificial tooth PLUS an artificial root (usually biocompatible titanium). With local anesthesia, the artificial root is inserted into the jaw bone where it integrates with the bone tissue. There are three parts to a dental implant: the artificial root, the connecting abutment, and the final crown or denture. An implant is often the optimal restoration as it offers beauty, strength, natural function, and protection from bone recession that often transpires at the site of a missing tooth.

Dentures

Most men and women have heard of dentures: a plates holding artificial teeth that can be removed by the wearer. These are custom-made and can contain varying numbers of teeth. Sometimes the entire set of upper and lower teeth have to be pulled and a denture created. Modern dentistry offers a myriad of custom dental implant-denture combinations to restore missing teeth.

Don’t worry about losing your grip on the adult teeth you’ve been enjoying all these years. We have experience and training in many critical services to meet your dental needs including implants, emergency, family/general, and cosmetic dentistry.

Tooth Implant Placement: Before, During, After

By Dental health, Dental implants, Restorative dentistry

Dental implants are rapidly becoming the tooth replacement option of choice. Millions of Americans have chosen implants, like those available at Future of Dentistry at Willows – North Andover. Once the decision is made, patients usually want to know what’s involved every step of the way.

Before the Procedure

It begins with a consultation and preliminary exam. We’ll take X-rays of your teeth and jaw to make sure you have enough healthy bone structure. If you don’t, we may recommend bone grafting.

We’ll also inspect your gums for any signs of gum disease. Healthy gums are essential for a successful implant.

During Implant Surgery

After administering anesthesia, a guide hole is drilled into your jaw and a titanium post – which is the actual implant – is screwed in. The process takes about an hour.

After

Some patients experience minor pain and swelling. Over-the-counter pain relievers are usually enough to control it. An icepack can help, too. Most people can resume their usual activities the same day.

At Future of Dentistry at Willows – North Andover we have placed dental implants in people from Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley, who also come to us for our complete general dentistry. Call to schedule an appointment with us today!

Missing Teeth And Dental Implants

By Dental health, Dental implants, Restorative dentistry

implant dentures

They say that statistics don’t lie, and the statistics on tooth loss among American adults are quite jarring. By the time they reach the age of fifty, most have lost an average of twelve natural teeth. Dental implants from Future of Dentistry at Willows – North Andover are an ideal solution to this problem.

Between the ages of thirty-five and forty-four, sixty-nine percent of adults have lost at least one of their permanent teeth. The main reasons for all this loss is tooth decay.

Dental implants are metal posts that are surgically placed into the jaw. Within a few months the post and bone have grown together. This becomes a solid support for an artificial tooth.

Implant-supported artificial teeth are durable and long-lasting. They look and function like natural teeth. Most recipients say that once the healing is over, they are able to eat the things they have always enjoyed.

One dental implant can support one artificial tooth. Several implants can support a dental bridge, or a full dental arch. At least three million people are already enjoying the benefits of dental implants, with more people getting one each passing year.

At Future of Dentistry at Willows – North Andover we offer single-tooth dental implants and other restorative dentistry options. Patients throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley have benefitted from this top-of-the-line technology. Contact us today!

New Protein For Dental Implant Patients

By Dental implants, Restorative dentistryNo Comments

North Andover Dental ImplantsCountless men and women have replaced missing teeth with jaw-bone anchored tooth implants. Unlike a dental bridge, a tooth implant consists of a titanium post inserted into the jaw bone. The bone meshes with the post to create a strong base for the natural-looking prosthetic tooth and crown that attaches to the post.

Dental implants are usually the perfect restoration for people who want to replace a missing tooth. There is a problem, however, if the jaw bone is too thin at the implant site.

When a tooth is extracted, the bone loses the blood circulation at the former site of the root. Consequently, bone recession often occurs. If the recession is extensive, there is not enough bone to hold the dental implant post.

Bone grafting can augment the bone at the implant site and provide the bone density necessary for a successful implant. This is usually effective, but it does require time for the new bone to be produced. A new discovery may provide a quicker solution for regenerating bone.

Researchers at the Georgia Health Sciences University College of Dental Medicine have identified a protein that quickly stimulates the production of new bone. The research team, led by Dr. Ulf M.E. Wikesjo, implanted bone morphogenetic protein in test subjects and discovered that “more new bone formed within four weeks than with conventional bone grafting.”

This protein will require extensive testing before it is available for dental implant patients. However, I am pleased with the prospect of an additional method for making dental implants possible for my patients with missing teeth and jaw bone recession.

Dental Implants Are Truly Life-Changing

By Dental implants, Restorative dentistry

Patients who are thinking about a dental implant from Future of Dentistry at Willows – North Andover often ask how long they last. An implant is a significant investment, after all. Do they really last a lifetime, like people say? The answer is yes, but an explanation is in order.

A dental implant is not a replacement tooth, but the titanium post that is inserted into the jaw. Titanium is well-suited for implants, and cases of rejection by the body are rare. A big factor in how long the implant lasts comes down to how well you take care of it.

Dental implants are life-changing! With regular checkups and proper care at home, a dental implant can last a lifetime. When you get your implant we will have specific instructions for daily care. For most patients, we recommend brushing and flossing twice a day.

Dental implants like those from Future of Dentistry at Willows – North Andover have become the tooth replacement solution of choice. Patients from throughout Greater Boston and Merrimack Valley also come to our office for complete restorative dentistry. Contact us today!
