Are you experiencing frequent headaches or jaw joint pain? Have you noticed chips in your teeth or crowns? These symptoms could indicate that you’re grinding your teeth during sleep, a condition known as bruxism. This unconscious habit can lead to serious dental issues and affect your overall health.
When Should You Get A Night Guard?
A night guard is a personalized dental appliance designed to shield your teeth from nocturnal grinding, also known as bruxism. At Future of Dentistry in North Andover, we provide our patients custom-fitted night guards tailored to your needs. These are some signs you may need a Night Guard:
- Jaw discomfort or pain
- Frequent headaches or migraines
- Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
- Dental issues like chipped teeth, broken crowns, or flattened tooth surfaces
- Muscle soreness, particularly in the jaw and facial muscles
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, a night guard can help protect your teeth and alleviate discomfort.

Headache Treatment With Mouth Guards
More than 20 million Americans suffer from severe migraine headaches. Studies have shown that people who suffer from migraine and tension headaches clench their teeth while sleeping on average 14 times harder compared to a control group.
Many people who clench their teeth while sleeping awaken every morning with varying degrees of headache pain accompanied by neck, temple, and jaw pain. Grinding and clenching aggravate the trigeminal nerve, a facial nerve that affects 3 areas: the eyes and forehead, upper jaw, and lower jaw. In reaction to stress, the trigeminal becomes overstimulated, causing migraines and other chronic discomforts.
The device we use is called NTI-tss. It is a simple neuromuscular device, custom-fitted and then worn on the front teeth while you sleep. It prevents your teeth from coming together and your jaw muscles from engaging when you bite down. The stressed trigeminal nerve gets much-needed rest and returns to normal function. In clinical trials, the device has reduced migraine headaches in 82 percent of those using it. NTI-tss is FDA-approved to treat migraine pain and is available at Future of Dentistry.
At Future of Dentistry, we want to help you and your family obtain a restful night’s sleep, and not wake up with painful symptoms. Contact our office and see what a night guard can do for you.
