General and Preventative Dentistry

For many people, their dentist is the medical professional they see most often. This makes it essential to find a general dentistry practice where you feel at home. That’s why our whole team focuses on giving you the best experience possible.

Dentistry not only addresses issues when they arise but focuses on preventing problems from developing, unlike many medical visits that don’t occur until symptoms are being experienced.

General Dentistry Services

Our practice provides general dentistry services to patients of all ages. At each visit, our team pays close attention to each patient’s unique needs, making sure exams and treatment are as comfortable as they can be.

Exams always include an overview of your dental health, as well as a clear explanation of what procedures are recommended and what they include. We want you to feel in control of your dental health and always encourage questions!

General dentistry covers a wide range of services, including exams and cleanings, fillings and other tooth repairs, cosmetic procedures, and more.

Family Dentistry

Part of our general dentistry practice includes family dentistry — because we see clients of all ages, we want healthy teeth to be a priority from day one.

To help children get used to regular preventative dental care, we’ve developed “Happy Visits.” We keep these appointments fun and easy to lay the groundwork for future dental care. During a Happy Visit, our family dentistry team gives a playful tour of the office and our tools to help ensure kids feel comfortable.

The Importance of Regular Teeth Cleaning

Because we focus on overall health and wellbeing, we recommend coming to our Billerica practice every six months for cleanings.

Having a professional dental cleaning is the only way to eliminate tartar, a calcium deposit that forms on teeth and contributes to decay. These visits, combined with your home hygiene routine, are the best way to prevent decay and other oral health issues.

These regular visits are also an essential element of our preventative dentistry program. In addition to your cleanings, we’re able to assess the overall condition of your dental health and identify problems in their early stages when they’re easiest to address.

Has it been more than six months since your last cleaning? Call us to make an appointment now.

Oral Cancer Screening

As with other health issues, early detection of oral cancer is key to obtaining good treatment outcomes. That’s why we offer oral cancer screenings as part of every exam.

The VELscope Oral Assessment System

In addition to a visual screening, we use the VELscope system, which allows us to find abnormalities that might otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. This exam is painless and straightforward, taking less than one minute.

Saliva Testing

In order to diagnose periodontal disease and some HPV-related oral cancers, we use saliva testing as part of the screening process.

Prevention of Oral Health Issues

Cavity Prevention

An ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure. You can prevent tooth decay with daily brushing and flossing at home and regular checkups with us. Our focus on preventative dentistry means we’d rather treat cavities by preventing them from developing in the first place.

In addition to maintaining good oral hygiene, the CDC recommends dental sealants as a way to prevent childhood cavities. This non-invasive process protects teeth from bacteria and acids that destroy enamel and result in tooth decay.

Tooth Extractions

While maintaining your natural teeth is always our first choice, sometimes a tooth extraction is the best way to prevent a damaged tooth from causing further harm or spreading infection.

Root Canals

A root canal sounds scarier than it is! The procedure is simple and a routine part of our general dentistry practice.

The root canal procedure clears away decay, bacteria, or infection from the inside of the tooth — protecting the root. Once clean, a sealant is applied to prevent further damage or decay. Finally, a porcelain crown may be used to protect the remaining tooth structure and restore function.

Mouth Guards for Damage Prevention

Sports can be a lot of fun, but high-impact sports also come with risks. Not only can teeth take damage, but some sports come with the risk of concussions and traumatic brain injuries.

To enjoy sports safely, a custom-made mouthguard provides the most comfort and the most protection. Our preventative dentistry can help protect you even outside the dental office!
