Gum Disease Treatment In Dracut

We prioritize diagnosing and treating gum disease to restore and maintain your oral health. Our advanced techniques and personalized care ensure effective management and prevention of periodontal issues.

What Is Periodontal Disease?

At Future of Dentistry in Dracut, we offer exceptional periodontal disease treatment to safeguard our community’s oral health. Also known as gum disease or periodontitis, this infection targets the bone and tissues surrounding your teeth.

Healthy gums should appear pink and feel firm, but infection can cause them to become red, spongy, and even loosen your teeth. Periodontal disease arises when bacteria in plaque release toxins and enzymes, triggering gum irritation, infection, and inflammation. Remarkably, this process often occurs without causing pain.

What many overlook is the potentially life-threatening nature of periodontal disease. According to the American Dental Association, gum disease has been linked to various serious conditions including heart disease, respiratory issues, diabetes, stroke, Alzheimer’s, premature births, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Do not underestimate the importance of treating gum disease promptly. Visit us at Future of Dentistry in Dracut to protect yourself and your family from gum disease today. We proudly provide effective periodontal treatments for patients from our many neighboring communities, including Dracut, Lowell, and more.

side by side of gum disease progression

Common symptoms of periodontal disease include:

  • Swollen gums
  • Dark build-up between teeth
  • Bleeding gums when you floss
  • Constant bad breath
  • Loose teeth
  • Decaying teeth

While it is possible for you to detect these signs on your own, usually people who have gum disease don’t know it. For instance, most people just ignore bleeding gums when flossing, but this can actually be a sign of periodontal disease.

Our Gum Disease Treatment Process

We assess the severity of your condition accurately by using a periodontal probe to measure pocket depth. A healthy pocket (around every tooth) is typically 3mm deep or less. The greater the pocket depth, the more severe your periodontal disease. The resulting condition is a deeper and deeper pocket. What ensues is a progressive breakdown of the tissue and bone.

In order to determine the best way to combat the bacteria causing gum disease is to first identify which bacteria are present. We work with partners like OralDNA and Temple University for in-depth microbial testing to look for the root cause of the disease so we can find a permanent solution.

We are fully aware that the daily treatment and removal of oral bacteria and plaque are both key strategies for maintaining a healthy mouth. That is why our Massachusetts dentists supply you and your family with proven solutions to combat periodontal disease.

  • We treat periodontal disease based on its severity. If you have gingivitis (the early phase of periodontal disease), we typically perform a routine cleaning (sometimes it takes 2 visits to clear up this infection), and we recommend changes to your at-home oral care.
  • If the disease progresses to cause deeper pockets, we must conduct a soft-tissue management program or gum therapy. We use hand scaling techniques and an ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar, plaque, and bacteria underneath your gums, and often use a tissue laser to improve unhealthy gum tissue.

After the treatment is completed, we will have you return in 6 weeks for a follow-up visit. At this time, we check your periodontal pockets again and go over any further home care instructions we may have for you.

Once you are diagnosed with periodontal disease, you will always potentially have it. The bacteria that cause this damage will attempt to “recolonize” in about 90 days. This is why we recommend effective at-home oral care and a 3-month maintenance appointment during which we will provide a more thorough cleaning of your teeth and gums.

The American Academy of Periodontology indicates that 3 of 4 Americans have some form of periodontal disease. We do not want you or your family to join this outrageous statistic.

Tanya was excellent!
Can’t say enough wonderful things about this team at the Dracut location. I have such a phobia of the dentist and my first visit here several years ago was for a dental emergency and was in agony for days over the holiday weekend. After seeing my regular dentist and being disappointed with their recommendations, I called this office after it was highly recommended by a friend. This was the best decision I could have made. I called and explained my situation, they got me right in, provided me with all the information I needed in order for me to make the best decision possible. They made me feel comfortable, cared for, like family. They were top notch. Dr. Levesque is so patient and really prioritizes my comfort while providing exceptional care. Doris, my dental hygienist is the best. She so gentle and caring. The ladies at the front Gaby and.Doris are so helpful and friendly. For any and all dental needs, please run to this office, you will not be disappointed!
All of the staff at Future of Dentistry provides excellent care from the time that you walk through the door. The hygienists and doctors are gentle, thorough and personable making it a very relaxing visit.

I've had a great experience here! Dr.Shedd is amazing at really listening to the patient and coming up with the right mode of care. During 2 procedures I recently had, Dr. Shedd was great in being super diligent and highly attentive in detail in filling in difficult positioned cavities. Would highly recommend!

On Tuesday I had a permanent crown put in by Dr. Austria, everything went fine, but on Wednesday morning I noticed it needed to be trimmed, I called and talked to Carissa she said come in when I can, I was there in about 20 minutes, they took me in almost right away, I seen Dr. Corey (not sure of spelling) he trimmed it in about 10 minutes, now it feels great. Everyone that works there has been great.

Had my first visit here last week and was really happy with my experience. The music was great, and my hygienist was absolutely wonderful. She was funny, personable, and did a great job easing my anxiety. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, the appointment went smoothly from start to finish. I felt comfortable and well taken care of. Everything was explained in detail and the doctor had great bedside manner.I got all my questions answered and they are in network with my insurance. There is plenty of parking on the Sladen St side of the building. Bathroom was clean and it smelled really good. All around very pleasant dentist visit and would definitely recommend. I'm so glad to have found this place!

I’ve been going to this place for a little bit over a year now I believe, and it has been one of the best dentists that I’ve been to throughout my experience of getting my teeth fixed for the past few years they’ve been able to accommodate almost everything helped me to the point where I can feel comfortable in my own mouth and I’ve never been happier They’re always able to answer the phones reschedule and get you in the doors without charging you an arm and a leg. They’re also very helpful if it isn’t even something they handle by finding you the right place. It’s been amazing going here. I would also like to mention the people who are at the front are some of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I’ve been able to come here so many times to the point where I know their names and they know mine and they are hilarious. I suggest this place heavily.
