General and Preventative Dentistry

At Future of Dentistry, we know that your oral and dental health is closely linked with your overall health and wellbeing. That’s why it’s so important to receive regular dental care — to be proactive and treat issues when they arise.

“The Wakefield team is wonderful. Everyone I have met there has been kind and attentive.” ~ Nicole P.

General Dentistry Services

Regular dental care is essential; that’s why we make sure you’re as comfortable as possible during treatment. We want you to look forward to office visits, so our general dentistry team pays attention to each patient’s unique needs.

Our dentists and clinical team always make sure you understand why a procedure is recommended and precisely what each step will involve.

To help you relax and get cozy, we’ve developed our “comfort menu,” including magazines, blankets, headphones, neck pillows, lip balm, and more. And if you’re still anxious about dental work, we’ll talk to you about your other options, from stress balls to oral sedation.

Family Dentistry

As a family dentistry practice, we help our patients become healthier people at all stages of life.

A focus on preventative dentistry means providing care before problems can develop. That’s why we offer “Happy Visits,” allowing children to get started with fun, easy, non-threatening visits. As part of the family dentistry team, our hygienists will give a playful tour of dental tools, including “Mr. Thirsty,” the suction device, laying the groundwork for a life-long relationship with dental health.

The Importance of Regular Teeth Cleaning

Regular teeth cleaning is the cornerstone of our general dentistry services because these cleanings are essential for overall dental health.

We recommend coming to our Wakefield practice every six months for cleanings and maintaining a regular dental hygiene routine at home.

At Future of Dentistry, we use gentle techniques to clean plaque off teeth to help prevent decay and other dental health issues from developing. Regular cleaning visits also allow us to check on the overall condition of your oral health and spot any problems while they’re still minor and easy to address.

Has it been more than six months since your last cleaning? Call us at 781-245-2299 to make an appointment now.

Oral Cancer Screening

An important part of preventative dentistry is regular screening for serious issues. Early detection of oral cancer is essential to obtaining good treatment outcomes. Our dentists and hygienists are trained to perform visual exams and use state-of-the-art technology that helps us screen more accurately for oral cancer.

The VELscope Oral Assessment System

The VELscope is a handheld tool that illuminates abnormalities that might otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.

The exam is painless and straightforward, taking less than one minute.

Saliva Testing

We can screen for periodontal disease or certain HPV-related oral cancers with saliva testing.

Prevention of Oral Health Issues

Cavity Prevention

Treatment of cavities is a mainstay of general dentistry, but our focus on preventative dentistry means we try to keep problems, like cavities, from developing.

We can help you customize your home care routines with the products and tools best suited for your individual needs. This care routine, combined with regular cleanings in our office, can help prevent cavities from forming.

For extra help preventing cavities, we can apply a dental sealant. Especially useful for children, dental sealants can prevent eighty percent of cavities for two years. After that, the sealant can be applied again if still deemed necessary.

Tooth Extractions

The preservation of your natural teeth is our priority, but sometimes tooth extractions are necessary. When a tooth is severely damaged, broken, or decayed, an extraction may be the best way to prevent further damage or infection from spreading.

Extractions can be performed safely and gently right in our office.

Root Canals

While dental fillings repair damage or decay to the tooth’s outer layers, a root canal is necessary when the tooth’s center or pulp is damaged.

A root canal procedure cleans the inside of the tooth and removes any bacteria or infected tissue. Next, the tooth is sealed, and a crown is placed over the tooth to protect it.

Mouth Guards for Damage Prevention

Store-bought mouth guards don’t provide adequate protection when engaging in high-impact sports. To help prevent concussions and traumatic brain injuries, you need a customized mouthguard created by a preventative dentistry professional.

Call our Wakefield practice at 781-245-2299 and ask about special offers for Wakefield residents and our participation in the Grin and Wear It program, which benefits patients in all Massachusetts communities.
