We call this the “Happy Visit!” It is vital that children start their early dental experiences with fun, easy, non-threatening visits. Our dental hygienists are great with the little ones. At our dental center, your children will learn about the suction (“Mr. Thirsty”), the water squirter, the bright light, and, if they are ready for it, the tickling toothbrush.
Teaching The Importance Of Oral Health At A Young Age
A great way to gradually introduce your children to the dentist is to bring them along on your dental visit! By doing so, you give your child the chance to get acclimated to the dental environment. Parents can play a big part in showing that going to the dentist isn’t something to be afraid of.
By making every experience a positive one, you can help ensure that going to the dentist will never be something your child avoids because of fear. This also allows our dentists to begin checking your children’s teeth early, to ensure that they are practicing good brushing and oral care.
At Future of Dentistry, we understand your concern for your child’s oral health. We will help you make the right choices to ensure that your child has a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile for years to come!
Essential At-Home Dental Care Habits To Develop
Here are some things you and your child can do at home to maintain oral health and make your dentist visits that much smoother!
- Brush your teeth 2 times a day.
- Floss every day.
- Eat nutritious foods.
- Cut down on sugary beverages.
We invite all parents to help their children develop good eating and cleaning habits early in life, so they can continue to enjoy great health well into adulthood.
Athletic Mouth Guards
Every child who plays sports should have a customized mouth guard. Research shows custom-fit mouth guards help prevent concussions and other head injuries, in addition to protecting the teeth. Ask our staff how custom guards make a difference — and ask about our programs to help make sports guards affordable for local families.
Looking for a little extra help keeping bacteria and plaque buildup at bay? Dental sealants may be the answer.
Sealants act as a shield against all sorts of harmful substances that can get stuck in between and along the surface of your teeth. They’re a great preventative measure for children and teenagers struggling with good oral cleaning habits.
The sealant itself is a thin, clear plastic coating that is painted onto the surface of the teeth and in all the little grooves where bacteria loves to collect. Sealants are particularly advantageous for the back teeth, specifically molars and premolars.
The dental sealant procedure is quick and painless, with no anesthesia, shots, or enamel removal required. The teeth are cleaned with a special gel to ensure all debris has been removed for the sealant is placed. Once the sealant is applied, we use a bright curing light to speed up the hardening process.
One set of sealants can last upwards of ten years! They are a safe, effective defense against decay.
